New Customer: Tulane University

 

Open Spatial is pleased to be deploying Munsys and enlighten at Tulane University. This includes converting the existing CAD drawing data into a Munsys schema and consolidating a recent campus map from surveys with the legacy campus utilities map.

Onsite training will be done at the end of September, after which campus staff will be able to use enlighten for map data access and reporting. The facilities group will be able to maintain and update a single database of mapped assets. In addition to the usual utilities included in Munsys (water, sewer, storm), the following features have been loaded onto the solution: Bike Racks, Bollards, CATV Lines, Chilled Water Pipes and nodes, Condensation Pipes and Nodes, Curb edges, Fence Lines, Fiber Optic Lines, Flood Zones, Fuel Line, Gas Pipes, Irrigation Pipes and Nodes, Landscape, Light Poles, Lot Lines, Parking Signs, Lots and Meters, Right of Way, Trees, Shrubs, Steam Line, Telephone Lines, Topo Lines, Traffic Nodes, Traffic Structure Lines.

Tulane University is a private, nonsectarian research university in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. It grants degrees in architecture, business, law, liberal arts, medicine, public health and tropical medicine, the sciences and engineering, and social work and currently enrolls nearly 14,000 students between its graduate and undergraduate programs.

 

Day of Action: Imagine a Day Without Water

 

On 15 September, Open Spatial North America joined elected officials, drinking water and wastewater providers, community leaders, business and labor groups, policy experts, advocacy organisations and infrastructure experts in participating in Imagine a Day Without Water, an effort to educate the public about the water infrastructure crisis currently facing the United States.

Organized by the Value of Water Coalition, hundreds of organizations across the country participated in events aimed at raising awareness about the crucial need for investment to ensure that no community in America is left without water and the infrastructure that brings it to and from homes and businesses.

Each day in the U.S., 700 water mains break. Annually, the U.S. loses 1.7 trillion gallons of water to leaks and breaks. To honor this national day of action, Open Spatial conducted a week of webinars with more than 35 organisations outlining the threat that aging and underfunded water infrastructure poses to our communities and economy and the critical importance of developing proactive leak detection plans.

Open Spatial Introduces
“Touch” Capability in enlighten 3.3

 

Open Spatial today announced the introduction of "touch" capability in enlighten 3.3—its powerful browser-based mapping application and corporate geoportal. Working intuitively on all form factors including desktops, tablets and smart phones, users can now easily use pinch zoom gestures directly on the map and panels to make selections and execute functions. In addition, support for GPS devices has been included extending the benefits of the enlighten business intelligence portal from the desktop to any form factor for users on location.

"Including 'touch' and GPS to the geoportal--it's what our customers have been asking for. This improvement to enlighten provides a single point of contact to the asset maps and associated data no matter if the user is at a desk, in a truck or on-site."

Enlighten enables seamless integration of engineering, corporate databases, imagery, mapping data and multimedia. The software takes advantage of Autodesk Infrastructure Map Server or Map Guide Open Source by extending their functionality with solutions for managing water, stormwater and sewer and electricity infrastructure assets, as well as planning, property, roads, open space and infrastructure assets for councils, utilities, airports and campuses.

Open Spatial Successful in Process Improvement of As-Constructed Drawing Automation for ACT Directorate of Territory and Municipal Services

 

The ACT Directorate of Territory and Municipal Services (ACT TAMS) implementation of the Open Spatial As-Constructed Design Certification (ACDC) software and related 'As-Constructed Portal' competed successfully and went live on 28 January 2016, within nine months of the project being awarded to Open Spatial.

The solutions have helped ACT TAMS's innovative approach to business by automating its drawing submittal methods, as well as improving the accuracy of their asset data acquisition processes. ACT TAMS captures 145 asset classes in maintaining its roads, drainage, open space and street lighting in Canberra - the capital of Australia.

TAMS implemented on the 'As-Constructed Portal' to automate the validation of submitted digital data against its drafting standards (Ref-11) and then transferred this data to a staging area within the TAMS environment, removing the need for manual data entry.

"The Open Spatial ACDC product and Portal have provided TAMS with a sleek and highly functional validation and data loading solution for its asset data, allowing thorough and timely asset information updates to the asset owners and associated data users of TAMS. The project began in April 2015 and the implementation has been highly successful, with benefits already being realised," stated Robert Vanderkley, Technical Project Manager for TAMS.

ACDC together with the 'As Constructed Portal' provides a complete solution for the delivery of Works As Executed (WAE/As-Constructed) data-from validating and converting the data to uploading the data into the GIS/asset management system. The 'As Constructed Portal' (www.asconstructed.com) provides Consulting Engineers, Architectural Practices, Developers and Landscape Architects an ability to pre-validate their drawings prior to submission, short circuiting the process of delivering an as-constructed drawing to the satisfaction of TAMS and triggering the release of deposits to the developer.
