Veteran GIS User Selects Open Spatial and Munsys
AUSTRALIA, Sydney, Sep. 26, 2005 - Open Spatial Australia
today announced that Tweed Shire Council, located
in Australia's fastest growing region, has selected Open Spatial Australia
to supply its Spatial Solutions. These solutions are based on the premise
of Data Quality, Data Accuracy, and Data Integrity.
The Open Spatial solutions are based on the popular Munsys spatial
data capture and management software. Using pervasive, risk-averse
technologies from Oracle and Autodesk as a foundation, Open Spatial
Australia delivers accurate spatial data management to Local Government
and Utilities.
Bridging the gap between Engineering (CAD applications) and GIS (Geographic
Information Systems) has been a priority for all GIS users looking
for improved productivity. Recognition that it (CAD and GIS) is all
spatial data is a key differentiator in the Open Spatial offering that
will deliver direct productivity gains for Tweed Shire Council staff.
The ability to process the drawings from development sub-divisions
automatically will reduce the time needed to validate As-Built drawings
and incorporate them into the corporate database for access by all
staff throughout the organisation.
Russ Merry Chief Information Officer at Tweed Shire Council commented
that; “Tweed Shire Council is a third generation GIS
user with a savvy user audience. Installing a traditional GIS solution
was not going to deliver any added value to the business beyond that
already delivered by the existing products. We found that Open Spatial
was the only vendor that stood out head and shoulders above the others
with focus on data quality and real world applications that deliver
productivity improvements to tired and repetitive business processes.”
Open Spatial's solution places total emphasis on the quality and integrity
of the data, delivering all the functionality that a mature GIS customer
would require. Moreover the CAD heritage of Autodesk delivers a level
of accuracy and precision that is unprecedented to the GIS community.
“Open Spatial spoke our language and proved that their solutions
best fitted our business problems,” added Merry.
“Tweed Shire Council, has evaluated our solution exhaustively
constantly looking for innovative products and processes to improve
efficiencies. To be selected over multi-national traditional GIS
vendors in our industry is testament and recognition that innovation
continues to survive in this difficult IT landscape. This is another
great achievement for our company,” said Managing Director
of Open Spatial Australia, Anthony Jahshan.
“Tweed Shire Council is a committed Microsoft SQL Server site
however we recognised that the spatial functionality of Oracle Locator
complements the information held within our corporate databases.
Our research from existing Open Spatial customers indicates that
Oracle will have no additional maintenance impact to what we
currently have in place for Microsoft SQL Server. An important facet
of the project with Open Spatial is to seamlessly integrate our spatial
and corporate applications including integration to ADI Dataworks
and Tech One Proclaim which both run on Microsoft SQL Server,” added
Merry.
